With roots in 19th-century German colonization, Tanzania's coffee industry evolved when Leon, a third-generation farmer, embraced specialty coffee. In 2007, he partnered with American roaster Aideen Christianakis to rejuvenate Acacia Hills Estate, a farm with a history dating back to the 1930s. Located on Mount Oldeani, the estate overlooks the wildlife-rich Ngorongoro crater.

Leon and Aideen combine soil analysis and shade management to produce high-quality coffee, a tradition that's been ongoing for over 50 years at Acacia Hills. Their on-site cupping lab allows for real-time quality control, affirming the estate's standing in specialty coffee production.
