WASHED PURPURACEA
This year, we’re excited to be working with Finca El Socorro for the first time, and among the incredible coffees we’ve secured, one stands out as truly rare, Purpuracea, a natural mutation of Maracaturra that is unlike anything we’ve seen before.
What makes Purpuracea so special. It starts with its striking pink coffee flowers, a rarity in the coffee world where most Arabica varieties bloom white. As the cherries ripen, they take on a deep purple hue, a visual signature that sets this coffee apart.
Beyond its unique appearance, Purpuracea delivers an exceptionally vibrant and complex cup. It shares the best qualities of Maracaturra, silky body, juicy acidity, and layered sweetness but adds an extra dimension of ripe dark berries, stone fruit, and delicate florals.
Grown at 1540 to 1860 meters in Palencia, Guatemala, Purpuracea thrives under the meticulous care of Juan Diego de la Cerda, a third-generation producer renowned for his innovation. El Socorro is known for its precise processing methods, including the use of hot water after milling to speed up fermentation while preserving bean density for a cleaner, more expressive cup.
This is a truly rare variety, and to our knowledge, it has only been cultivated in a handful of places. With its breathtaking pink blossoms, deep purple cherries, and extraordinary flavor profile, Purpuracea is one of the most exciting discoveries we’ve come across. We’re honored to share it with you and can’t wait for you to experience this remarkable coffee.
