Basha Bekele Badagalo Washed is a washed heirloom from Badagalo, a sub village of Murago in the Bensa district of Sidama, grown by Basha Bekele from local heirloom varieties. It is clean and delicate, with pomelo, green tea, pink stonefruit, and blossom. This is one of the coffees we roast and pour in our own Mazelab shops. I always buy more than we can get through, so I share the extra as green. Write to me for what is in stock and a sample.

Ripe cherry is hand picked over several passes, floated, and sorted, then de-pulped and fermented in open containers for two to three days. The parchment is washed and dried on African beds under clean mesh for around 18 to 25 days to about 11.5 percent moisture, then hulled at Basha's own mill in Bombe before export from Addis Ababa. The lot grows on Nitisol soils between 2350 and 2490 masl, and the farm covers 50.5 hectares with an annual crop near 9.5 tonnes.

Basha Bekele is one of the youngest and most driven producers in Bensa. He took on farms across Murago, Kokose, and Gonjobe from 2021 and has built his network village by village. From his single farm lots in Gonjobe he won the 2024 Cup of Excellence and Taste of Harvest (TOH) 2025.
