Coffee is a red liquid

Coffee is actually a red liquid to me.
When I brew light but well developed beans and extract them properly, I do not see brown. I see red, a beautiful deep amber, almost ruby colour.
It shows clear structure. Low fines. Balanced extraction. I like to hold the server and let the light pass through. That is when the red tone appears naturally.
What the colour tells me
If the brew looks dull and muddy, it often tastes the same: less clarity, less definition, a bit boring.
If it looks too yellow, it can be under extracted or simply too weak, as if the coffee has not shown its full potential yet.
Colour is not everything. This is just my observation and my personal preference. But to me, it already tells a story.
Next time you brew filter coffee, hold it against the light. Enjoy the colour.
Maybe you will see the red too.
