The competition
Taste of Harvest is the quality competition of the African Fine Coffees Association, and the 2026 judging took place in Addis Ababa in February during the 22nd African Fine Coffees Conference. Ethiopia entered 226 coffees, 100 of them naturals. The winning lots then go to auction, which is where we raised our hand.
Out of one hundred naturals, ours stood first.
Where it comes from
Gargari Gutity is a washing station in the Gargari village of Yirgacheffe, about 22 kilometres from Gedeb and just under 2,000 meters. More than 3,200 smallholder farmers deliver cherry there, most of them growing the 74110 variety, and the naturals dry for 19 to 25 days on raised beds. That slow, patient drying is a big part of what we taste in the cup.
The coffee travels to Prague, rests, and goes on the roaster in small batches. If you roast at home, keep an eye on our green coffee collection, and for the field side of this work, follow Mazelab Origin on Instagram.
